Dolly's Story

Dolly Carmichael, was only 5 years old in 2019 when she swallowed a flat button battery from a TV remote control. Undetected for months, Dolly became very ill. She began vomiting after eating, her throat made a strange gargling sounds and she developed a harsh coarse voice. Her mother Kira repeatedly took Dolly back to the hospital insisting something was wrong with her little girl. Finally, an x-ray revealed a button battery lodged in her oesophagus.

Dolly was rushed into surgery to have the button battery removed. Luckily, Dolly survived. Since 2019, Dolly has undergone 6 surgeries to her oesophagus and will require ongoing treatment and monitoring for the rest of her life.

Dolly is a little miracle and thankfully one of the lucky ones.
